There
are may types of funguses covered buy this name and they have the similar
remedial measures. They cause
darkening of the timber or bleaching.
Soft rot is regarded as a superficial form of wet rot. The level of decay is dependent of the
type of timber and its location. The
size of cuboid damage is dependent on the type of fungus. |

Remedial measures

It is vital to
carry out an extensive survey of timbers (especially structural) to find the
extent to which this rot has spread. The source of the moisture must be located and removed. Where the drying out may be delayed the timber should be treated using an appropriate preservative. The level of replacement/reinforcement will depend on the type of preservative used. Install membranes or barriers between masonry and timber contact points were possible. |
