Remedial measures

It is vital to carry out an extensive survey of timbers (especially structural) to find the extent to which this rot has spread.

The source of the moisture must be located and removed.

Where the drying out may be delayed the timber should be treated using an appropriate preservative.

The level of replacement/reinforcement will depend on the type of preservative used. Install membranes or barriers between masonry and timber contact points were possible.
